Calera Councilmembers plan to honor deceased firefighter Chris Roy by naming the fire station where he worked after him.

The council will name Fire Station No. 2 The Christopher J. Roy Building.

Roy, 25, died Nov. 28 during a traffic collision while responding to a call.

Calera Fire Chief Tommy Moon said the department considered naming a new truck after Roy, but he thinks naming the station is a more fitting tribute.

Moon said the building will serve the city indefinitely.

&uot;A truck is only going to last so long,&uot; Moon said. &uot;Hopefully that building will be there from now on.&uot;

Roy helped construct the station and then worked as a full-time firefighter in the building, which is located on George Roy Parkway.

&uot;I think it’s a fitting honor to Chris, with the amount of work he but in there,&uot; Moon said. &uot;That was his station.
