The Most Rev. Henry Lake Orombi, archbishop and primate of the Anglican Church of Uganda, will preach at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Jan. 15 for both the 8 and 10:55 a.m. services.

As one of only 38 primates of the worldwide Anglican communion, the archbishop serves as the spiritual leader for about 9 million Anglicans.

With some 13,000 congregations, the Anglican Church of Uganda accounts for almost 40 percent of Christians in the predominantly Christian country.

Briarwood senior pastor Harry Reeder expressed his excitement about the event.

&8220;I am so grateful for Archbishop Orombi. He is a man of God and we are privileged to have him preach from the Briarwood pulpit.&8221;

From Luke 8:22-25, Orombi&8217;s message will be &8220;With Jesus in the Storm,&8221; and the event coincides with his travel to Birmingham as a speaker for the Anglican Mission in America&8217;s winter conference 2006.

Educated in Uganda as a schoolteacher, Orombi began his Christian ministry as a musician and preacher among the country&8217;s youth. An accomplished guitar player, he also became a popular composer.

He continued his education by studying theology at Bishop Tucker Theological College and later completed a bachelor&8217;s degree in theology at Nottingham University (St. John&8217;s) in Great Britain.

He has served various roles in the Church of Uganda including evanglist, youth director, archdeacon and bishop and he has worked in partnership with many evangelical groups, associations and churches in the U.S. and Britain.
