Sam Robison, a 10-year-old fifth grader from Helena Intermediate School, is Shelby County Reporter Student of the Week.

Wayne Williams, principal at HIS, selected him for the honor following his victory in the schoolwide spelling bee.

In addition to his being an &8216;A&8217; honor roll student, Williams said, &8220;Sam is an avid reader and exemplary student. His homeroom teacher, Ms. Celia Ingram, states, &8216;Sam can get along with anybody. He adds a special spark to our class.&8217;&8221;

Sam is the son of Ginger and James Robison. He has two brothers, Isaac, age 7, and Ben, age 5, and one sister, Kimi, age 4.

Reading is Sam&8217;s favorite subject in school.

&8220;Because that&8217;s pretty much my fort/,&8221; he said. &8220;I&8217;m kind of impatient. I can read at my own pace where in math, I have to go along with the rest of the class.&8221;

He said his favorite teacher is Ingram, who teaches fifth grade reading, spelling, language and science because of the excitement she brings in her teaching. He said of her teaching style, &8220;It&8217;s a lot more interactive.&8221;

To win the schoolwide spelling bee, Sam corrected the spelling of ligament and then correctly spelled pancreas.

In addition to school, Sam likes sports. He participates in YMCA soccer and Upward, the Baptist Church run basketball program. He is in an academic honor club and Chess club.

Sam also plays piano and enjoys video games.

He said his Grandfather Robison is his superhero. He said he &8220;admired&8221; him for that and said he used go fishing with his grandfather in the Gulf of Mexico.

When Sam grows up, he said he wants to be an orthodontist because he wants to make dental work less painful for patients.

Sam, an orthodontic patient, himself, plans to go to college at the University of Alabama at Birmingham
