The Chelsea Hornets earned an impressive and much-needed overtime victory over Class 4A, 10th-ranked Holt Friday night, 58-56.

Chelsea&8217;s Davin Palmer hit a three-point shot with three seconds remaining in the game to send the match into overtime.

&8220;This was a great win for us over a ranked team,&8221; head coach Wade Waldrop said.

The Hornets came back again in overtime from a five-point deficit with the help of two clutch free-throws by Matt Wooten. Stephen Icolano hit two free-throws in the waning seconds to give his team a two-point advantage and the lead for good.

Joe Wells finished as the high scorer for Chelsea, netting 25 points. Wells also had 12 rebounds, seven blocked shots and two steals.

&8220;Joe played pretty much the entire game for us,&8221; Waldrop said. &8220;He played very well for us inside.&8221;

Palmer finished the night with 17 points and six boards as the Hornets moved to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in area play.

Waldrop said that with a win by Montevallo over Holt this Friday, his team could have a chance at a share of an area title.

&8220;It would give us a chance to host the area tournament and that&8217;s the best we could hope for right now,&8221; he said.

Oak Mountain 42, Spain Park 33: The Oak Mountain Eagles&8217; Justin Luquire has been through his share of challenges this year.

An aching back paired with cold shooting have done nothing to help the Eagles&8217; center. But after scoring only two points in the opening half of Friday night&8217;s game against rival Spain Park, Luquire decided it was time to try something new.

The Eagles&8217; middle man scored nine points in the final two quarters and finished with a team-high 11 points against the Jags to give his team a 42-33 Class 6A, Region 6 win.

&8220;My back was really bothering me in the first half,&8221; Luquire said after the win. &8220;I decided that I just needed to play through it.&8221;

Luquire&8217;s teammate Bryant Gardner added 10 points while Tyler Gallimore finished with 10 to help move the sixth-ranked Eagles to 19-1 on the season. Luquire added six rebounds and one assist.

&8220;Justin grew up a lot tonight,&8221; head coach Jerry North said. &8220;He&8217;s had a couple of tough games lately.&8221;

The Eagles went into halftime trailing Spain Park, 17-16, as North tried to encourage his squad to play with more intensity.

&8220;We guarded them a little bit better in the second half,&8221; North said. &8220;We had been letting our guard down and had some communication problems, but I thought he had pretty good intensity in the second half.&8221;

Spain Park was led by Adam Mims with nine points, but Jags head coach Brian Moon said his team struggled to score at opportune times down the stretch.

&8220;We missed putting a lot of shots in the basket,&8221; he said. &8220;We&8217;ll see them again and hopefully we&8217;ll be better.&8221;

Kingwood 72, Taylor Road 65: Adam Irby scored 19 points and pulled down 10 boards for the Lions Monday night as Kingwood held off Taylor Road, 72-65. Cody Owens added 15 points, Nick Holcombe netted 13 and Grant Armstrong added 10 for the ninth-ranked Lions in the win.

Briarwood Christian 70, Talladega 66: Briarwood Lions head coach Chris Laatsch could not express

how important a win over No. 2 ranked Talladega would be for his squad Friday night.

The Lions took the lead from their coach and an early lead in the contest, never letting up and eventually upsetting the Tigers, 70-66.

The Lions (13-6) were led by Wesley Lynch, who finished with a game-high 23 points. Lynch was one of four Lions to score in double figures in the victory. Nate Carlson finished with 14 points while teammate Matt Robertson had a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Austin Thames added 12 points for Briarwood.

Vestavia Hills 57, Thompson 54: The Thompson Warriors final shot was blocked Friday night as the Vestavia Hills rebels upended THS, 57-54.

Laderreous Kelly netted 14 points for the Warriors in the losing effort while teammate Gary Cunningham finished with 11 points.

Shelby County 81, Montevallo 43: The Shelby County Wildcats continued to rebound from their early season struggles Friday night, earning a victory over county rival Montevallo, 81-43.

Chris Bland led the way for the Wildcats with 21 points while teammate Mike Moore added 19 as Shelby County moved its season record to 11-5.

Dalvan Fulgham led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 points in the loss.

Calera 77, Vincent 62: The Calera Eagles were paced by T.J. Green and Demarcus Dowdell Friday night as they defeated the Vincent Yellow Jackets, 77-62.

Green and Dowdell finished with 21 points each for the sixth-ranked Eagles in the win.

Steven Adams led both teams in scoring with 22 points for the Jackets.

Indian Springs 54, Northside 44: Indian Springs&8217; John Bains had a career-high 31 points Friday night as his team defeated Northside, 54-44.

Bains hit 16-of-21 free-throws and had 13 points in the final quarter to put Indian Springs (8-5) on a 23-10 run that helped seal the victory.

Cornerstone 67, Central Christian 44: The Cornerstone Christian Chargers were paced by Dustin Shears and Ty Youngblood Friday night.

Shears netted 19 points while Youngblood finished with 15 points as the Chargers won their fourth-straight game
