The Oak Mountain Eagles have the luxury of five senior starters this season, with each player capable of leading the team in scoring on any given night.

Loy Vaughan was that player for the Eagles Friday against Area 6 opponent Pelham.

Vaughan netted a season and team-high 15 points as the Eagles cruised to an 21-1 overall record with the 54-23 win. Nine of Vaughan&8217;s points came on three-point shots.

&8220;They were leaving him unguarded the entire game,&8221; Oak Mountain head coach Jerry North said. &8220;To tell you the truth, I thought he passed up on too many shots tonight.&8221;

North said he was pleased with his team&8217;s defensive effort but acknowledged that the Eagles&8217; performance wasn&8217;t perfect.

&8220;We did pretty well after we settled down,&8221; he said. &8220;They had us shook up offensively in the first half and I thought we made some improvements in the second half.&8221;

Cornerstone Christian 64, Prattville Christian 47: The Cornerstone Christian Chargers were paced by Ty Youngblood Monday night as they defeated Prattville Christian, 64-47. Youngblood scored a team-high 17 points while teammate Dustin Shears netted 14 in the winning effort.

Daniel Bulger added 12 points as the Chargers moved to .500 with an overall record of 8-8 this season.

Briarwood 71, Northridge 51: Four Lions players finished scoring in double figures Saturday as Briarwood Christian won easily over Northridge, 71-51.

Matt Robertson finished with a team-high 26 points for Briarwood and added 11 rebounds in the winning effort. Robertson&8217;s teammates Drew Faulk, Austin Thames and Wesley Lynch finished with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Briarwood moved its record to 15-7 on the season.

Jess-Lanier 54, Shelby County 52: Less than 24 hours after notching a big victory over Calera, the Shelby County Wildcats fell in a heartbreaker to Jess-Lanier Friday night, 54-52.

Jess-Lanier&8217;s Thomas Hudson hit a three-point shot with a second left on the game clock to give his team a two-point victory over the Wildcats.

Josh Dikis was the leading scorer for Shelby County, scoring 16 points in the losing effort. Dikis&8217; teammate Tyrone Buie finished with 10 points as the Wildcats fell to a 15-7 record on the season.

Calera 69, Shades Mountain 58: The Calera Eagles bounced back from a difficult loss to cross-county rival Shelby County Thursday night with a convincing win over Shades Mountain on Friday, 69-58.

Demarcus Dowdell led the way for the Eagles with 18 points while teammate Earl Haynes netted 14 points. Kaderious Lacey ended the game with 12 points as the Eagles moved to a 13-8 overall record and 5-1 in area play.

Thompson 53, Hoover 38: The Thompson Warriors moved two games above .500 Friday night with a 55-38 victory over Hoover on the road.

THS advanced its season record to 13-11 on the year with the help of four players who scored in double figures.

Gary Cunningham finished as the top scorer for the Warriors with 12 points while his teammates Siddeeq Cooper, Kenny Betts and LaDerreous Kelley finished with 11 points each.

Kingwood Christian 59, Pickens Academy 51: The Kingwood Lions&8217; Dustin Myrick came off the bench in the second quarter Friday night and went 4-for-4 from three-point range to help his team earn a 59-51 victory over Pickens Academy.

Myrick finished with 12 points while his teammate Adam Irby also finished with a dozen.

Cody Owens contributed 11 points in the win as Kingwood moved to 18-3 on the season
