Charles Edward Emery

Charles Edward Emery, 84, of Shelby died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, in a local hospital. He was born in Alabama on April 12, 1921, to Charles Emery and Ida Massey Emery.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a contented man who loved his family and also a gardener who enjoyed the simple things in life.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Roberta Emery; his grandsons, Nick Wells, Bart Davis, Johnny Davis, Tommy Dalen Hanner, Frankie Robertson and David Robertson; his granddaughters, Tammy Cox, Zolanda Wells, Angie Wells, Shelly Wells and Shanna Brooke Wells; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Martis &8220;Red&8221; Emery of Fort Payne; and sisters, Edna Patterson of Texas and Onzelle Hughes of California.

Service was Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Calera with burial following in Old Shelby Cemetery, Brother Nick Wells presiding and Charter Funeral Home directing
