Student of the week: Luis Leon

Luis Leon, an 11-year-old sixth grader at Montevallo Middle School is Shelby County Reporter Student of the Week.

Sixth grade teachers selected him for the honor said MMS Principal Dr. Vanessa M. Nason.

&8220;Luis Leon is an exemplary student at Montevallo Middle School,&8221; Nason said.

&8220;He is very conscientious about his schoolwork and goes over and beyond in the classroom each day. This &8216;A&8217; honor roll student will definitely make great accomplishments in life.&8221;

Luis is the son of Jose Luis Leon and Magvis Leon. He is the grandson of Jose and Rosa Bonilla; has one brother, Magdiel, age 15; and one sister, Miriam, age 7.

Math is number one with Luis. He said it&8217;s his favorite subject because, &8220;I like multiplying things.&8221;

He also said he likes solving problems and, &8220;It seems easy.&8221;

Luis said his favorite teacher is Carolyn Nelson, who teaches sixth grade science at MMS.

&8220;She lets us do fun stuff,&8221; Luis said. He also said he liked doing experiments and dissecting creatures in the class and that Nelson is &8220;nice.&8221;

Luis was student of the month in the fourth grade at Montevallo Elementary. He is an A Honor Roll student at Montevallo Middle and is a member of the Math Team. He said he also likes to play soccer and read.

Luis said his brother is his favorite superhero.

He said when at a friend&8217;s house when his sister was little, Miriam was drowning and Magdiel saved her.

When he grows up, Luis said he plans to attend college and to become an architect. He said that because it involves math and he likes to draw. And he said he plans to build houses
