County teams to play in Souths largest soccer tourney

The 14th annual Lakeshore Shootout will get under way this weekend in the Birmingham area, with 64 boys and girls soccer teams from three states in attendance.

Included in those squads will be the Oak Mountain and Spain Park high school boys and girls and the Briarwood Christian School boys.

The event was founded by Spain Park boys&8217; soccer head coach Joe Carter in 1992.

At the time, Carter was the head coach at John Carroll High School.

The event will be held at a number of fields throughout the area including Spain Park, John Carroll, Hoover ands Oak Mountain high schools along with Simmons Middle School and Heardmont Park.

Teams are divided into two different skill divisions with the boys tournament scheduled for this Friday and Saturday and the girls&8217; tournament set for Feb. 25-26. Championship games for the tourney will be held at 7 p.m. on the second day for both boys and girls.

Shelby County teams will play 14 contests in the round-robin format.
