Cornerstone defeated by MMI in semis

MONTGOMERY &8212; Cornerstone Christian head coach Tim Smith said his team would have to find a way to stop Marion Military Academy&8217;s Jovaris Smith in their AISA, Class 1A semifinal game Wednesday.

Smith shot 11-of-12 from the field and scored a game-high 30 points as MMI pulled away from the Chargers in the fourth quarter for a 58-49 win.

Cornerstones&8217; Ty Youngblood and Dustin Shears finished the game with 15 points each while teammate Blake Etress added 10 in the losing effort.

The Chargers finish the year with a 14-9 record after losing their first six games.

Marion lost to Warrior Academy 72-62 in the Class 1A state title game on Thursday.
