MONTGOMERY &8212; &8220;Our shots just wouldn&8217;t go.&8221;

That was Kingwood Christian girls head coach Jerry Stearns explanation for his team&8217;s loss to Patrician Academy Friday in the AISA Class 2A state title game.

Looking at the stats, Stearns&8217; frustration was understandable in the 43-29 defeat.

The Lady Lions, who pride themselves on their ability to score from behind the arc, finished the game 3-of-23 from three-point range and 9-of-41 overall from the floor.

&8220;If we played again tomorrow we&8217;d still shoot threes because that&8217;s our number-one game plan,&8221; Stearns said. &8220;They just didn&8217;t fall.&8221;

Hannah Phillips scored 21 points in the game for the Lions, but her teammates could only muster another eight points combined.

Patrician outscored Kingwood 41-16 in the final three quarters allowing the Lions only four points in the final eight minutes of the games.

&8220;They played straight man-to-man and played it very well,&8221; Stearns said. &8220;But it all came down to our shooting.&8221;

Stearns said he was proud of his team for making it this far.

&8220;This bunch really played together as a team,&8221; he said. &8220;They came a very long way and I&8217;m tremendously proud of them.&8221;

The Lions&8217; coach noted that his squad will only lose two seniors next year and should look stronger than ever.

&8220;We&8217;re going to be very strong again next season,&8221; he said. &8220;I&8217;m looking forward to coaching this young bunch next year.&8221;

Phillips and teammate Kayla Cates were named to the AISA, Class 2A all-tournament team
