The Calera Lady Eagles looked like they were on their way to Birmingham Friday night after taking an early 14-6 lead in the first quarter against the R.C. Hatch Bobcats in the Class 2A Southwest Regional Championship at the University of South Alabama.

The Bobcats rebounded in the second quarter, however, to take a 27-25 halftime lead and went on to win 52-49 &8212; eliminating the Eagles from the playoffs in the process.

Shanavia Dowdell was the top scorer for Calera, finishing with 22 points and 12 rebounds while teammate Sherianne Allen added 14 points in the losing effort.

Charles Henderson 47, Briarwood 41: The Briarwood Lady Lions kept it close Wednesday in the Class 5A girls Southeast Regional at Troy University, but fell away from Charles Henderson late and eventually lost 47-41.

Briarwood&8217;s Ruth Ketcham netted 13 of her 14 points in the second half as the Lady Lions pulled within three points at 44-41 with 21 seconds left in the game.

Charles Henderson responded, however, netting three-of-four free throws to end the game.

Andee Matthews followed close behind Ketcham in scoring as she finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Charles Henderson&8217;s Erica Henderson finished with 22 points and seven rebounds for her team in the win.

Vestavia Hills 47, Spain Park 34: The Vestavia Hills Rebels proved to be too much for Spain Park Tuesday morning in the Class 6A girls Northeast Regional at Jacksonville State University.

The Lady Rebels (30-3) went five-for-five from behind the arc as they down the Lady Jags 47-34.

Spain Park (20-11) struggled to hit shots from the floor, netting only one-of-six three-point attempts and finishing 13-40 from the floor.

The Lady Jags were led by Tiaren Young with 12 points while teammate Tiffany Thomas finished with nine in the losing effort.

The Rebels&8217; top scorer was Andrea Taylor, who finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Hewitt-Trussville 59, Oak Mountain 41: The sixth-ranked Oak Mountain Eagles were upset by Hewitt-Trussville Tuesday 59-41 in their Class 6A, Northeast Regional matchup at Jacksonville State University.

The Eagles were 6-for-22 shooting in the first half and 9-for-25 in the second half, giving them a 31.9 percent shooting average for the game.

Hewitt-Trusville (19-13) had four players finish in double figures, with Justin Tubbs netting a team-high 16 points for the winning team.

The Eagles&8217; Bryant Gardner, Loy Vaughn and Thomas Nordyke each had seven points for Oak Mountain (29-2)
