Panthers open with big wins

The Pelham Lady Panthers&8217; softball team had an explosive start to their season last week, winning their first three games by a total score of 40-3.
The Panthers defeated Vincent in their season opener by a final score of 16-0 and followed that victory up with wins over Minor (10-1) and Shades Valley (14-2) in the first round of the Pelham Leadoff Classic.
Pelham had its three pitchers combine for a perfect game in the win over Vincent, with Jennifer Wallace striking out four batters and Trish Zettler downing three. Zettler also had seven strikeouts in the Lady Panthers win over Shades Valley.
Pelham&8217;s Christin Crocker finished the Shades Valley game 3-of-4 from the plate with a grand slam and six RBIs.
The remainder of the Pelham Leadoff classic was cancelled Saturday due to rain. No reschedule for the tournament was made.
Chelsea 5, Oak Grove 4: Taylor Brooke led the way for the Lady Hornets on the mound, pitching a three-hit shutout over six innings as Chelsea edged past Oak Grove 5-4.
Brooke gave up four doubles in the sixth inning, but the Hornets were able to hold on for a win after reliever Lauren Berget forced three Oak Grove groundouts to win the game.
Rebekah Marbury and Berget each had a single and double in the game while teammate Stephanie Hollis finished with two stolen bases for Chelsea (1-0)
