Joel Wayne Pate

Funeral Services for the Rev. Joel Wayne Pate, 58, of Shelby, were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel.

Burial followed in Old Shelby Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home.

The Rev. Joel &8220;Wayne&8221; Pate went home to be with his Lord on Feb. 28, 2006 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. He was born to Joel Robert and Hazel Jo Thornburg Pate on Feb. 24, 1948 in Shelby.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kay Hand Pate; his children, Kellie Andrea (Tim) Rutledge, Jeremy Wayne (Amelia) Pate, Shannon Michael (Jessica Fulton) Pate and four grandchildren.

He graduated from Shelby County High in 1966. In 1968, he was called to serve his country in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart and Soldier&8217;s Medal of Honor.

Rev. Pate had the privilege of serving as Pastor of Helena Pentecostal Church, for the past 19 years. He was also owner and president of Wayne Pate Electric, Inc. He was much loved, appreciated and respected by his family, friends and acquaintances
