SPECIAL TO THE REPORTER
The Library Book Club at the Albert L. Scott Library in Alabaster will host &8220;Hank Williams Sr.: An Alabama Sensation&8221; on April 2 at 2 p.m. The program is offered at no charge and refreshments will be served.
The discussion will be presented by Alan Brown, English instructor and Writing Center director at the University of West Alabama. Brown is a member of the Alabama Humanities Foundation.
Williams is generally considered one of the greatest country western singers who ever lived. In his presentation, Brown will demonstrate how the singer&8217;s boyhood years in Chapman, Ala., had an indelible impact on his music.
Through the use of video, slides and recordings of Williams&8217; songs, Brown will not only trace the course of Williams&8217; tragic life, but he will also explain why the singer returned to Montgomery shortly before he died and penned two of his greatest songs, &8220;Your Cheatin&8217; Heart&8221; and &8220;Kaw-Liga.&8221;
Brown will also point out the biographical references in a demo recording titled &8220;Log Train.&8221; By the end of the lecture, audiences should understand why Williams&8217; appeal has extended far beyond country music.
The presentation is part of the AHF 2005-06 Speaker in the House program.
