It&8217;s a difficult task to be ranked as one of the top high school soccer teams in the state of Alabama.
Despite the challenge, four Shelby County schools found themselves with teams ranked in the top ten of the Alabama high school soccer coaches poll last week &8212; on both the boys&8217; and girls&8217; sides.
The rankings were released based on the teams&8217; records as of April 3.
Oak Mountain, Spain Park, Briarwood and Indian Springs all placed teams among the best in the state.
The Oak Mountain boys soccer team has dropped only two games this entire season despite losing eight of their best seniors from last years&8217; state championship team.
The Oak Mountain Lady Eagles join their male counterparts this year as a dominant squad on the field, boasting a 10-2-1 record and the top coaches&8217; poll ranking with a total of eight first-place votes.
Spain Park also landed both its soccer teams in the top ten.
The Lady Jaguars have dominated their opponents so far this season, earning a 9-3-1 record along the way. They are currently ranked fourth in Class 6A.
The Jaguar boys are ranked eight in the state in Class 6A. Despite their five losses, the Jags have earned big wins over big squads this year.
The Briarwood Christian boys and girls make the list on the Class 5A level, with the boys ranked first in 5A and the Lady Lions ranked second.
BCS&8217;s boys have a record of 7-4-1 while the girls are 10-3.
The Indian Springs boys and girls both rank second in Class 1A-4A, with the boys earning a record of 10-1 and the girls notching a record of 6-4.
The level that these teams are competing at has given local soccer fans some exciting games to watch this season.
The Spain Park boys were scheduled to meet the Briarwood boys last night in a heated battle while the Jags will also face the Oak Mountain Eagles on Thursday.
Don&8217;t be surprised if you see each of these eight teams vying for a state title later on this season.
They continue to prove in 2006 that they have what it takes to win
