Softball results: Lady Bulldogs hand Jemison first loss of the season

The Montevallo Lady Bulldogs have the Jemison Panthers&8217; number.
For a second straight season, the Bulldogs handed JHS its first loss of the softball season.
With a 5-4 victory, the Lady Bulldogs stopped the Panthers&8217; streak at nine games on Thursday and advanced their record to 5-2 on the year.
&8220;This was a big win for us,&8221; Montevallo head coach Ron Holsombeck said.
&8220;We really got after them early.&8221;
Montevallo scored first off a slew of pitching errors by the Panthers as Lauren Stephens and Whittney Farrington gave the Lady Bulldogs an early 2-0 advantage.
The Panthers tied the game in the third inning off
three walks and an error but Montevallo was able to respond quickly, scoring Kayla Irwin, Cloe Jones and Brianne Edwards to take a 5-2 advantage.
&8220;We had a bumpy middle three innings and responded well when we got challenged at the end,&8221; Holsombeck said.
&8220;Although we&8217;ve got several hitters well ahead of the rest of the pack, it seems like a different one or two come through for us each game.&8221;
Anna Nix earned the win on the mound for MHS, improving her record to 3-2 on the season.
Montevallo&8217;s game against Shelby County was rained out in the third inning on Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs host Calera in a double header this Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m.
Chelsea 8, Spain Park 6: Class 4A Chelsea got the better of Class 6A Spain Park Monday as the Hornets defeated the Lady Jags 8-6.
The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to win the game, getting big hits from Lauren Bergert and Tori Hollis to help seal the victory.
Bergert finished the game with four hits and two RBIs.
Bergert was also the winning pitcher, striking out five batters over five-and-two-third innings of work.
Lakin Spear and Maria Gulas had two hits each for Spain Park.
Parker 5, Indian Springs 4: Indian Springs fell to Parker High School on Monday by a score of 5-4.
Panthers win Spartan Showcase: The Pelham Lady Panthers defeated Mortimer Jordan 6-0 Saturday afternoon to claim the title at the Pleasant Grove Spartan Showcase.
Two Panther pitchers combined for 22 innings of shutout play on the mound.
Trish Zettler (13-7) and Nicole Cornett (9-3) dominated their opponents at the tournament, with Zettler striking out 16 batters in the championship game to earn the win.
The 6A Panthers advanced their record to 23-11 on the season in the tournament, with win over Oak Grove (4-0) and Bibb County (6-0) on their way to claiming the tourney title
