Columbiana hires bookkeeper, seeks new library director

Columbiana has approved the employment of a full-time bookkeeper and is advertising for the position of Library Director.

And soon public records such as minutes, ordinances, resolutions and agenda may be available online via a link to the city&8217;s new website.

At its regular April 4 meeting, the council unanimously approved the employment of Frances Sammons as a full-time bookkeeper for administration effective immediately. The position is a new one recommended by the city auditor.

Upon the completion of a job description by the Library Board of Directors, the council also voted unanimously to advertise the position of Library Director.

The council also voted unanimously to provide web hosting of municipal documents from municipal Code Corporation at a cost of $1,000 per year.

Following a public hearing held previously and a 4-1 vote of the Planning and Zoning Board, the council voted unanimously to rezone property for Rob McLeroy from residential to business next to Recycling Unlimited.

The council also unanimously approved a retail beer and table wine license for Jerry Huff of Jerry&8217;s Texaco and authorized the mayor to sign a contract with Pyrotechnico to provide fireworks for Liberty Day at a cost of $6,050. A 50 percent payment is due upon the signing of the contract.

Approved under the consent agenda were:

– Minutes of the March 21 regular meeting.

– Payment of accounts listed as of an April 4 printout.

– Payment of $3,595 to B & G Environmental for two gas detectors; $2,951.96 to Bluff Park Hardware for two rescue saws; $79,568 to Sunbelt Fire Equipment for breathing apparatus and bottles, all paid from Homeland Security Grant monies.

– A payment of $65,986 to St. Paul Travelers for the city&8217;s general liability insurance
