Spain Park&8217;s Ryan Bell is used to winning.
For the third time this season, the Jaguars top thrower won both the boy&8217;s discus and javelin &8212; setting a personal record in the discus along the way at the Spain Park Invitational on Saturday.
Bell began the day with a throw of 50 feet, three inches to win the shot put and followed that win with a 151 foot, eight inch first-place throw in the discus. The throw ousted his earlier PR by two inches.
&8220;These meets are very important,&8221; Bell said after winning the discus. &8220;It gives me chance to work on technique.&8221;
Bell has worked diligently in both events, having already placed second in state in the indoor shot put earlier this year.
With three regular season meets left before the Class 6A state championships, Bell is trying to fine-tune every part of his throws.
&8220;Both these events are important for me,&8221; Bell said. &8220;I&8217;m working hard in both.&8221;
Bell was just one of a number of Spain Park athletes to finish first in their events last weekend.
The Jags had 15 athletes take home first place finishes in their home invitational while the Pelham Panthers had three competitors finish in first place.
