FROM STAFF REPORTS

Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin will now serve as chairman of the Shelby County Legislative Delegation.

McClurkin, who is currently serving in her second term in the Alabama House of Representatives, was chosen as the delegation&8217;s leader last week.

&8220;With so much going on in Shelby County, I think it is critical that we continue working in a united fashion for the conservative issues that the people of Shelby County want,&8221; she said.

Rep. Mike Hill who has served as the delegation&8217;s chairman for the past four years stepped down after his appointment to a number of other high profile committee positions recently.

&8220;With all of the work on the Joint Highway Committee taking so much of my time, I just felt like we needed someone else to take on this leadership role and I cannot think of anyone better than Rep. McClurkin,&8221; Hill said.

&8220;McClurkin has consistently been a leader who has been regarded as one of the most effective legislators in Montgomery, and I think we are lucky to have her leading our delegation.&8221;

The delegation also unanimously elected Rep. Cam Ward as vice chairman.

Hill expressed support for Ward as well.

&8220;Cam has proven that he is a rising star in the legislature through his work on behalf of road improvements for Shelby County and his bright future will be an asset to our entire community.&8221;
