Oak Mountain pitcher Bronson McGriff found himself in a tight spot on Monday night.

With only one out in the fifth inning and bases loaded against a high-powered Vestavia Hills Rebel team, McGriff struck out the final two batters to help the Eagles earn a 9-3 win over the Rebels and claim their first-ever Class 6A, Region 6 regular season title.

&8220;Coach told me that if I didn&8217;t get those last outs he would have to pull me,&8221; McGriff said. &8220;I was able to get the guy out and overall I felt pretty good tonight.&8221;

McGriff pitched six innings in the game and finished with three hits, three runs, seven walks and five strikeouts as the Eagles claimed their tenth region win of the season.

&8220;Any time you can go 10-2 in this region it&8217;s a big accomplishment,&8221; Oak Mountain head coach Tommy Youngblood said. &8220;We battled an competed the entire night and our hitters did what they had to do to score runs.&8221;

Kevin Patterson and Kyle Eller each had a two-run home run in the game for the Eagles (23-8).

&8220;We had to do a lot of little things right tonight,&8221; Youngblood said. &8220;When you do those things right, you give yourself a good chance to win.&8221;

Bill Heinke closed out the game for OMHS in the seventh inning, striking out two batters to seal the win for the Eagles.

Oak Mountain wraps up their regular season on Thursday with a non-region game against Walker County.

Chelsea 9, Oak Grove 6:

The Chelsea Hornets clinched the Class 4A, Area 8 title on Monday night with a 9-6 victory over Oak Grove.

The Hornets came back from a 6-1 deficit with the help of sluggers Douglas Pate, Cody Andrews and Brad Rawlings, who finished with two hits each in the game.

Zac Hilliard added a two-run home run for the Hornets in the victory.

Chelsea finished the year perfect in the area with a 6-0 record and moved their record to 14-7 with the victory.

Spain Park 14, Hoover 13:

The Spain Park Jaguars had their game against rival Hoover wrapped up in the second inning Monday night until they squandered a 10-run lead.

After jumping out to a 12-2 advantage, the Bucs rallied in the seventh inning to tie the game at 12. The Jags (13-16) were able to hold on, however, scoring the game-winning run of an RBI single by Miles Cobia.

Spain Parks Neil Caudle was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs in the game while Cobia finished with four hits and two RBIs.

Hoover will face Thompson tonight for a chance to tie for second in Class 6A, Region 6 play. With a win on Wednesday, the Bucs and Warriors would play a playoff game for the second spot in the region.

Calera 10, Thorsby 3:

The Calera Eagles were led by a pair of three-run home runs Monday night in their 10-3 victory over Thorsby.

Matthew Tracy and Raymond Oldham each had a home run for the Eagles.

Mountain Brook 4, Pelham 1:

The Pelham Panthers could only muster three hits Monday night in their 4-1 loss to the Mountain Brook Spartans.

Stephen Yeatman took the loss on the mound for the Panthers, finishing the game with four hits and giving up four runs.

Thompson 7, Tuscaloosa County 6:

The Thompson Warriors earned a big win over Tuscaloosa County on Saturday 7-6. The Warriors&8217; Sparacino hit a walk-off grand slam home run in the seventh inning to give his team four runs and the victory.

Daniel Cox was the winning pitcher in the game, going two innings and giving up four hits, three runs and two walks.

The Warriors play Hoover tonight to decide second place in Class 6A, Region 6.

If THS wins they can clinch the second place spot.

If the Bucs win the two teams will face each other in a playoff on Thursday
