The Calera Police Department continues to investigate five robberies at the Holiday Inn Express hotel along Interstate 65 that cost a group of travelers more than $30,000 in stolen goods and damages to vehicles.

Police have a lead on the suspect in the robberies, which happened between 5-5:30 a.m. last Wednesday.

Calera police captain Rick Rollan said his department is looking for a heavy set white mail driving and newer-model Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck.

Rollan said that the thief was likely looking for an easy hit when he chose the vehicle parked outside the hotel.

&8220;The only thing that could have helped these people is an alarm system,&8221; he said.

&8220;There were no unlocked doors. I&8217;m surprised that no one heard the windows of these vehicle being smashed in.&8221;

Calera police used surveillance tape from the hotel to identify the truck allegedly used in the robberies, but were unable to get a tag number for that vehicle.

Rollan encouraged anyone with information regarding the robberies to call the Calera Police Department at 668-3505
