Trinity 2, Chelsea 0:
The third inning of Tuesday night’s Class 4A first round playoff game proved to be the deciding factor.
In a primarily defensive matchup, Trinity was able to slip the game’s only two runs past the Hornets in the third.
&uot;This was a very close ball game,&uot; Chelsea head coach Chad Horn said. &uot;It came down to a couple of hits, and we couldn’t find any holes late in the game.&uot;
The Hornets finished the game 5-for-19 batting as a team and finished with five hits, all singles, for the game.
CHS pitcher Coty McLaughlin pitched a solid game on the mound for the Hornets in the losing effort, going six and two-third innings while giving up six hits, two runs and four walks. McLaughlin finished with six strikeouts.
The loss marks the end of Chelsea’s season and the teams’ playing at the Class 4A level. New alignments for the 2006-07 season move the Hornets to the 5A level.
Horn said his team will have to cope with the loss of seven seniors, five of which started for CHS, as the team makes its move to 5A ball.
&uot;We’re definitely going to miss all of our seniors,&uot; he said. &uot;We have a lot of good pitching coming back, but we lose our entire outfield.&uot;
