AISA state track and field: KCSs Irby wins title

Kingwood Christian&8217;s Adam Irby took first place in the boys&8217; high jump at the 2006 AISA track and field championships in Selma last Wednesday.
Irby cleared a height of six feet, two inches to beat out second place finisher Justin Collins of Tuscaloosa Academy by one inch.
The Kingwood senior also took home sixth place in the boys&8217; triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, four inches.
KCS&8217;s Ben Massey finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.17 seconds while teammate Cody Owens tied for 10th in the boys&8217; high jump with a leap of five feet, four inches.
Shelby Academy&8217;s Preston Newsome finished in sixth place in the boys&8217; discus throw with a distance of 117 feet, seven-and-one-quarter inches.
The Raiders fared well in the boys&8217; relay events, scoring points in three of four team races.
Shelby Academy finished fourth in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 46.56 seconds, fifth in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:37.87 and third in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:46.52.
Cornerstone Christian&8217;s Michael Martin finished in eighth place in the boys&8217; 110-meter hurdles with a time 0f 23.58.
Shelby Academy&8217;s Chelsea Carter was the lone top-10 Shelby County finisher in the girls&8217; competition.
Carter finished fourth in the girls&8217; 200-meter dash with a time of 28.27 seconds.
In team scoring, the Shelby Academy and Kingwood Christian boys tied for seventh place with 13 points apiece while the Lady Raiders finished tied for 15th place with four points
