Change could be good

Montevallo has been a place of change lately. Has it been good for the city or bad? That of course depends on your point-of-view. We believe the changes that are taking place could be good.
A police chief resigned during an investigation of the police separtment. During that same time a police officer was terminated without the reason ever being made public. Now the city has a new police chief and the department once again seems on the move.
A city engineer resigned after at least one council member indicated that a new one was needed.
There were those on the council who questioned the effectiveness of the past engineer. The resignation of Ben Carr gives the city an opportunity to bring in new blood and to specify exactly what the city
is seeking in engineering services.
A planning and zoning director resigned without comment. Catherine Legg served the city well during her tenure. However, with change in the air,
concern about the environment, controlled growth of Montevallo and new ordinances to preserve the character of the town while paving the way for the future, this is also an opportunity to gain
a fresh point-of-view.
Bob House had been working on a comprehensive plan for the city since he was hired by the city council. House appeared to differ with the direction the county guided the citizens and decisions made by citizens.
Perhaps it is best that he stepped aside to let the council and citizens’ work toward a plan all can agree with the county’s help.
Sometimes new blood is needed to bring a fresh perspective, renewed energy and a better opportunity
