Michaela Ferguson, age 8, of Harpersville, who will be entering the third grade at Vincent Elementary School in the fall, is Shelby County Reporter Reader of the Week.

While she reads at both the Harpersville Public Library and in Vincent, Sandra Berry, library director for the Lallouise Florey McGraw Public Library in Vincent, selected her for the honor.

Serving as library director in Harpersville is Marsha Reynolds.

Michaela is the daughter of Greg Carter and Ladeitris Ferguson and the granddaughter of Billy and Janet Ferguson and Jenny Carter.

She has one sister, Noah Leigh Ferguson, age 1 1/2, and a dog named Hector.

Michaela reads about 25 or more books per week. She says she likes to read books about dragons and princesses. But she likes Dr. Seuss, written by Theodor (Ted) Seuss Geisel and Goosebumps by R. L. Stine and Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans.

Michaela said she also likes mysteries and adventures and said she wants to become a veterinarian some day.

&8220;I love animals,&8221; she said.

Michaela said the books she reads don&8217;t have to be completely about animals. She likes Mr. McBroom stories by Sid Fleishman and The Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne.

She said The Magic Tree House characters go on adventures and see different kinds of animals like polar bears.

Michaela said she reads Thursday afternoons in Vincent and Tuesdays in Harpersville because she likes to read that much.

&8220;I like to learn new things and there are other sorts of animals I haven&8217;t seen yet in the world,&8221; she said.

Michaela had already read more than 60 books this summer and plans to continue to read 25 books per week.

Last year, Michaela took second place in Vincent and first place in Harpersville in reading.
