Funeral Services for Dr. Robert J. Whorton, 91, of Fourmile, were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with Rev. Gary Jones officiating.

Burial followed in Fourmile Baptist Cemetery.

Dr. Whorton, who passed away on June 12, at a local hospital, was born on September 6, 1914 in the Fourmile Community. He graduated from Northwestern University. Dr. Whorton was a dentist, an inventor and was a track star at the University of Alabama. He retired from the Army where he served his country during World War II.

He is survived by his daughter, Judith Whorton; a niece Nancy Clark; two nephews, William Whorton, Jr. and W. R. Ray; and several great-nieces and nephews.
