The women&8217;s basketball program announced that Stefanie Durant and Veronica Jackson will join the squad for the 2006-2007 season.
Durant, a 5-5 point guard from Pensacola, Fla. is a transfer from Atlanta Metropolitan College.
&8220;Stefanie is a true point guard with quickness and excellent ball handling skills, said Roy Dixon, head coach. &8220;She sees the floor well and has the ability to score when needed. She guards as well as anyone on the ball on. She is also an outstanding student in the classroom.&8221;
Jackson, a 5-10 guard from Tuskegee, comes to UM from Southern Union Community College. She averaged 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals per game last season.
&8220;Veronica is a very athletic big guard with the ability to score inside and out,&8221; Dixon said. &8220;She is an excellent defender with the ability to guard big and small opponents. She is very intense and passionate about the game.&8221;
The volleyball team also adds Ashley Cohlmia, a 5-11 outside hitter from Wichita, Kan. She set a high school record for services aces in one season, and was ranked fifth in the state in total aces.
&8220;Ashley gives us much needed depth at the out side hitter position, plus she has played the other front row positions too,&8221; said Perry Robinson, head coach. &8220;We are very excited to have Ashley join us.&8221;
