Over 50 percent of the 1,050 eligible voters in Shelby County&8217;s Camp Branch beat showed up at the polls last Tuesday to vote down a zoning proposal that would have placed the area under the land-use jurisdiction of the Shelby County Commission.
The beat, which includes areas of Calera, Alabaster and Columbiana, is located just of Highway 31 along Shelby County 26.
Of those who voted, 206 people cast their ballot in favor of the zoning while 353 voted against the proposal.
While all of Shelby County falls under the Shelby County planning commission&8217;s enforcement, zoning controls still have to be approved by referendum
