BOE announces hire of new principal, six new assistants

There will be a number of new faces in leadership roles at schools across Shelby County this year.

The Shelby County Board of Education hired a new principal for Chelsea Elementary School and six assistant principals at other schools across the county at its July 20 meeting.

Elvin Hill Elementary assistant principal Stephanie Herring was named the new principal at Chelsea Elementary for the coming year.

&8220;I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Elvin Hill,&8221; Herring said. &8220;I feel so proud and honored to go to another community and to be part of the change that Chelsea is getting to see.&8221;

Herring has also spent time teaching at Meadowview Elementary School and at schools in Birmingham and Fort Worth, Tex.

Assistant principal hires at the school board&8217;s meeting included:

– Larry Giangrosso at Pelham High School.

Giangrosso has served as the head baseball coach at UAB and as the athletics director and head baseball coach at Central Alabama Community College. He also taught English and physical education and coached baseball and football at W.A. Berry High School in Hoover for the first 15 years of his career.

– Dr. Daniel Steele at Thompson High School.

Steele has served four years as assistant principal at Tarrant High School and one year in the same capacity at Fairfield High School. He has also taught social studies at Mountain Brook Junior High School and Jackson Olin High School.

– Cynthia Cruce at Chelsea Middle School.

Cruce is currently an English and journalism teacher at Oak Mountain High School. She has 14 years of experience in public education, including time at McAdory High School.

– Celita Carmichael at Inverness Elementary School.

Charmichael is currently a third grade teacher at Inverness Elementary. Prior to teaching, she worked in the corporate world.

– Robin Payant at Thompson Middle School.

Payant is currently the special education teacher at Erwin High School and is a part-time instructor at Jefferson State Community College. She has 13 years of experience in public education.

– James Burton at Chelsea Elementary School
