Chelsea basketball coach ready

Michael Napp, the new head basketball coach for Chelsea High School, likes the vision for athletics there.

Napp comes to what will be 5A Chelsea this fall from 4A, N.E. Jones High School in Laurel Miss. where he served as head basketball coach for two years.

He is a graduate of Auburn University and holds a bachelor of science degree in zoology and a masters in secondary science education from South Alabama.

Now in his seventh year of coaching, Napp was assistant basketball coach at Auburn High and served as assistant basketball coach and junior varsity basketball coach at USM Wright in Mobile for four years.

At N.E. Jones, he compiled a 24-11 record last season and saw his team advance to the sweet sixteen of the Mississippi playoffs.

Napp said he was excited to be working at Chelsea High. He said the athletic department there is under good leadership under Athletic Director Wade Waldrop.

Napp said of Waldrop, &8220;He has a tremendous vision for the future of Chelsea athletics, the facilities are top notch&8221; and he complemented the character of the kids he will be coaching.

Waldrop has moved to the head football coaching position.

Napp said he hit the floor running with the team in June and they played 15 summer games
