Sara Morris Cowart, 88, died Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community.
She is survived by her daughter, LeClare Turner and son-in-law, Robert D. Turner, of Winston-Salem, NC; her son, Zollie S. Cowart, III, of Georgetown, Great Exuma, Bahamas; two grandchildren: Robert Davis Turner, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; Sara Turner Barefoot and husband, D. Caldwell Barefoot, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren: Caldwell Barefoot, III (Wells), Turner Barefoot and Zollie Barefoot, also of Raleigh, NC
A native of Langdale, Alabama and a lifelong Methodist, Mrs. Cowart was predeceased by her husband, Zollie S. Cowart, Jr., to whom she was married for 61 years. They lived the greater part of their lives together in Calera, Alabama, later relocating to Birmingham, Alabama, then to Winston-Salem. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, Auburn University, and graduated from Howard College in Birmingham, Alabama. A lifelong golfer, she was for many years very active in the Alabama Women&8217;s Golf Association. She was the daughter and only child of the late Claude D. and Mary Lee Barron Morris, of Palmetto, Georgia.
Graveside services will be scheduled for Salem Cemetery in Calera, Alabama at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
