Olivia Plowman, age 8 of Maylene, was all dressed in purple, ready to take her turn on the ice this past Saturday at the Pelham Civic Complex.

A few moments later, she returned from the ice to the stands confident.

&8220;I think I did really good,&8221; she said.

She was right. When her score was posted, she placed first in Solo Pre-Preliminary Group A Restricted Freeskating.

Hers was but one face among many Shelby County youngsters who participated in the Southeast Sports Festival held July 27-30 at various Shelby County sites.

Events included archery, baseball, basketball, bowling, fencing, figure skating, gymnastics, softball, taekwondo and track and field.

Plowman attends Meadow View Elementary where she is entering the third grade.

&8220;I compete a lot, mostly here, and I&8217;ve traveled a lot,&8221; she said. &8220;I started (figure skating) when I was 4-years-old.&8221;

Olivia said, &8220;My favorite (ice skating) move to learn is the attitude spin.&8221; She said the hardest &8220;would be the spirals because one of the spirals I do in my routine is cross the leg and switch arm. That was hard.&8221;

Other Shelby County skaters and their results include:

– Madison L. Brown, 9, of Calera, who finished first in Compulsories Pre-Preliminary Group A and first in Free Pre-Preliminary Group A Unrestricted Freeskating.

– Morgan R. Brown, 9, of Calera, who finished second in Pre-Preliminary Group A Compulsories and first in Pre-Preliminary Group B Restricted Freeskating.

– Leslie C. Burnett, 11, of Pelham, who finished second in Pre-Preliminary Group B Compulsories; first in Pre-Preliminary Spins; and first in Pre-Preliminary Group C Unrestricted Freeskating.

Diehl, 7, of Helena, who finished third in Pre-Preliminary Group A Restricted Freeskating.

– Lynsie Dyksterhouse, 10, of Pelham, who finished third in Pre-Preliminary Group B Unrestricted Freeskating.

– Marilyn F. Evans, 9, of Helena, who finished third in Basic 7-8 Restricted Freeskating.

– Heather Haynie, 16, of Maylene, who finished second in Basic 7-8 Restricted Freeskating.

– Jacob Haynie, 12, of Maylene, who finished second in Pre-Preliminary Restricted Freeskating.

– Tamara H. Kelly, 8, of Helena, who finished second in Pre-Preliminary Group A Restricted Freeskating.

– Ava N.Michl, 8, of Helena, who finished fourth in Pre-Preliminary Group A Restricted Freeskating.

– And Emily A. Smith, 10, of Chelsea, who finished first in Pre-Preliminary Group B Unrestricted Freeskating and first in Bronze Interpretive.

There were also a host of Hoover skaters who won awards:

– Aurian Eghbalian, placed second in Pre-Juvenile Compulsories, first in Moves Field Intermediate; and second in solo Free Restricted juvenile girls.

– Megan A. Jacobi placed second in Compulsories Pre-Preliminary Group A.

– Jessica E. Spence placed third in Compulsories Pre-Preliminary Group A and third in Solo Free Unrestricted Pre-Preliminary Group C.

– Avery C. Henson placed first in Showcase Group 3, second in Solo Free Restricted Pre-Preliminary Girls Group B.

– Ian Jacobi placed first in Solo Free Restricted Basic Skills 4-6 Boys.

– Heather C. Hardman placed second in Solo Free Unrestricted Pre-Juvenile Girls and first in Spins Pre-Juvenile.

– Payton A. Demonte placed second in Solo Free Unrestricted Pre-Preliminary Girls Group A.

– Kali L. Deming placed second in Solo Free Unrestricted Pre-Preliminary Girls Group C
