Shelby County all-stars reach world series

The 2006 Shelby County 13-14-year-old Dizzy Dean All-Star team went 2-2 in the World Series held recently in Southaven, Miss. but were eliminated by St. Johns of Louisiana.

The team advanced after finishing as the runner-up at the Alabama State Tournament held in Vinemont.

In the first game of the World Series, Shelby County fell to Milton, Fla., the state champion team of Florida, by a score of 4-1.

Shelby County rebounded to defeat Bartow, Ga. by a score of 1-0 the next day. The Shelby County team took advantage of their next opportunity and defeated Cedartown, Ga. by a score of 7-3.

But that was as far as the season would go. The Shelby County All-Stars fell to St. Johns 12-1. St. Johns went on to place second in the series
