Evangel, Hope get seasons underway

Evangel Christian dominated Restoration Academy in some of the first official football action of the 2006 season last Friday night.

Evangel defeated Restoration 42-34.

Evangel scored on a 53-yard Hunter Price run; a 46-yard pass from Issac Snuggs to Jacob Snuggs; a Cody Browning a 5-yard run; a 68-yard pass from Issac Snuggs to Jacob Snuggs; a 36-yard pass from Issac Snuggs to Kevin Marlowe; and a 14-yard Marlowe run.

Evangel also scored three 2-point conversions.

Despite dominating on the scoreboard, Evangel trailed Restoration in first downs, 14-20, in rushing 208 to 307 and passing 161 to 187 yards.

Restoration lost two fumbles to none, however, for Evangel. And Restoration was penalized for 25 yards to 17 for Evangel.

HOPE PRESEASON

Hope Christian went 1-1 during a jamboree played at Garywood last Friday night.

The Hope Christian Eagles defeated the Tuscaloosa Home Educators 24-0 but fell to Garywood 7-0.

Against Tuscaloosa, Stephen Young scored on a 3-yard run with Braden Culpepper adding the 2-point conversion.

Isaiah Drew next scored on a 1-yard run with Culpepper adding the 2-point conversion.

And Culpepper closed out the scoring by going eight yards for a touchdown and punching in the 2-point try.

Hope coach John Gordon said of the night, &8220;Not terribly bad.&8221;
