The Pelham Panthers prevailed 17-6 over Walker in a home field scrimmage last Friday night.

Second-year Pelham head football coach Brett Burnett said following the exercise, &8220;We got some good work done. I saw some good things and saw a lot of things we&8217;ve got to get better at.&8221;

He said his defense played well at times.

Burnett said running back Wes Holland had a good game. And he said quarterback Josh Thomason threw a pick but will learn from the experience.

It should be noted that Thomason also threw for two touchdowns.

In addition to acknowledging the play of the offensive line, Burnett had praise for running back Russell Prince, wide receiver Isaac Bivins and Chris Brice defensively.

The Panthers will open the real football season by hosting Spain Park this Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Pelham scored on a 10-yard pass from Thomason to Bivins. A 10-yard pass from Thomason to Holland and an 18-yard field goal by Daniel Jackson. Jackson added two extra points.

Thomason completed 21 of 30 attempts for 186 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Holland had eight rushes for 35 yards and one touchdown.

Bivins caught two passes for 17 yards and one touchdown; Drew Roy caught two passes for 36 yards and Shawn Lynch caught three passes for 39 yards.

Spain Park shuts out Northridge

Spain Park hosted Northridge for a jamboree Friday night,

defeating Northridge 31-0.

&8220;I though we played well as a team on both sides of the ball,&8221; said Jags coach John Grass. &8220;I was very pleased with our effort.&8221;

Grass would not single any particular players out for their performance noting that they &8220;all did well.&8221;

All of the Jaguars&8217; points came via the air attack with three of those strikes from quarterback Cody Wells.

They included an 18-yard strike to Brandon Harris, a 23-yard pass to Justin Diliberto and a 42-yard pass to Garrett Grisham
