Gray Power: Whos eligible for medical needs shelters

The following people are eligible for medical need shelters.

Persons who require minimal to moderate assistance with activities of daily living are:

-Wheelchair-bound patients

-People dependent on electricity to operate medical equipment

-People with mild dementia but without abusive or wandering behavior

-Mentally ill or mentally retarded people with nonagitated behavior

-Ostomy patients

-Foley- or suprapubic-catheter patients

-People who experience frequent incontinence, either urinary or bowel related

-People who require assistance with injected medications

-People who require oxygen, nebulizer or sleep apnea therapy that has been stabilized or maintained at home for 30 days or more

-Hospice patients

-Intravenous therapy patients

-People who require help with simple dressing changes

-People who require peritoneal dialysis, either self-administered or administered by family members without complication

The shelter needs the following information:

-Caregiver name

-Identification and insurance information

-An adequate supply of prescription medication to last a minimum of 72 hours

-Any special dietary supplies

-Extra glasses, hearing aid batteries and other commonly used items

-Change of clothing, bedclothes and slippers

-Important phone numbers: of family members, friends, neighbors, doctors and pharmacist

-Any medical supplies that you will need for 72 hours

-Any medical equipment that you routinely need for your condition and well-being

Emergency health information should include:

-Blood type

-List of prescriptions

-Insurance numbers

-Social Security card

-Immunization dates

-Contact information for health providers and emergency contacts

-Physician&8217;s order
