Dashing Dallas County 41-7 on the road last Thursday, the Chelsea Hornets gave first year head football coach Wade Waldrop a big margin of victory for his first win.
Waldrop said he was pleased with the way his kids played on both sides of the ball.
He said his defense did a great job giving the offense the football. He noted that the defense created four turnovers for the Hornets.
Waldrop also said his offensive line as a whole did a great job setting the tempo on the opening drive and opening lanes for running back Davin Palmer.
Palmer carried the ball 13 times for 208 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, Austin Vinsant carried the ball four times for eight yards and two touchdowns.
He said quarterback Coty McLaughlin did a good job leading the team and running the option.
McLaughlin was two for two passing for 38 yards and one touchdown.
Waldrop also noted that Patric Brasher had two interceptions and Zack Hilliard has about 12 tackles on defense.
Chelsea marched 62 yards in four plays to score its first touchdown of the night on a 17-yard Palmer run and Ricky Jordan PAT with 10:59 left in the first quarter.
The Hornets completed a four-play 49-yard drive at the 7:27 mark of the first quarter on a 14-yard Palmer run and PAT.
Chelsea would score again on a six-play 42-yard drive with 4:58 remaining in the first quarter capped by a 12-yard McLaughlin pass to Jason Thurman.
Dallas County finally scored at the 9:18 mark of the second quarter to trail 20-6.
But the Hornets took just three plays to cover 66 yards on their next scoring drive capped by a Vinsant 1-yard run and PAT less than a minute later.
Palmer would also cap a seven play 58-yard drive with an 8-yard run with 8:33 remaining in the third. The PAT was good.
Vinsant accounted for the final score of the night on a 2-yard run capping a five-play 27-yard drive with 2:23 remaining in the third quarter
