A Shelby man was arrested Aug. 21 on charges that he abused his two-week-old baby.

Bryan Keith Melton, 28, was arrested by Shelby County Sheriff&8217;s deputies and charged with one count of aggravated child abuse.

The Shelby County Department of Human Resources notified the Sheriff&8217;s office after the child was treated at Children&8217;s Hospital. Medical staff at the hospital contacted DHR officials when they suspected that the child had sustained injuries as the result of abuse.

A Sheriff&8217;s report said the child&8217;s address was listed in the 1600 block of Highway 42 in Shelby.

&8220;A joint investigation between the Sheriff&8217;s office and the department of human resources led to a warrant being obtained on the father,&8221; a Sheriff&8217;s office press release stated.

Melton was being held in the Shelby County Sheriff&8217;s jail as of Monday with a $1 million bond.
