The Montevallo Bulldogs, 1-1 overall and 0-1 in region play, had no miraculous comeback in the bag when they fell 40-6 to LaFayette last Friday night in a regional encounter.

Previously the Class 3A Region 3 Dawgs came back from a 20-point deficit at 1A Billingsley to win in overtime.

&8220;It was one of those games where we had 17 snaps in the first half. In those 17 snaps we had six turnovers and five missed assignments,&8221; said Montevallo head football coach Jim King.

&8220;You can&8217;t be successful against a well coached anyone when you do like that.&8221;

The Dawgs were down 32-0 in the first quarter, but held defensively until the fourth quarter when Montevallo scored 6 points and gave up 8.

King said his team has to correct the mistakes, then build on the positives.

He stressed that his squad is &8220;a young team with not a lot of game experience.&8221;

Montevallo&8217;s lone score came on a 68-yard run by Desmond Piper in the fourth quarter. But Able Nieto&8217;s kick failed.

The Dawgs managed 209 yards of total offense with all but three of those yards coming on the ground.

Brandon Broadnax had 77 yards rushing on nine carries; Piper had 63 yards on seven carries; and Phillip Evans had 59 yards on 10 carries.

Piper completed one of 10 passes and had three interceptions for a minus 5 yards. Kevin Callender was one of three for 8 yards passing.

LaFayette rushed for 159 yards and passed for 207 yards for a total of 366 total offense.

Montevallo also lost three of four fumbles and gave up three interceptions.

The Dawgs will host regional opponent Marbury Friday night
