Thompson falls to Hueytown

The 6A Thompson Warriors are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in regional play following a tough 34-24 loss to regional opponent Hueytown at home last Friday night.

The Warriors opened the season with a win over 6A Florence, but Hueytown was a game that counted in Region 5.

&8220;I think our kids played hard,&8221; said Thompson head football coach Brian Maner. &8220;I think their kids played hard.&8221;

Maner was, &8220;They made a few more plays than we did.&8221;

Now, Maner said his team has got to learn from its loss and get ready for Hillcrest.

The Warriors played tough against Hueytown, trailing by just 3 points in the third quarter 20-17. But the fourth quarter proved the difference as Hueytown pulled away with the help of a 62-yard touchdown strike.

Hueytown gained 217 yards on the ground and 171 through the air for 388 total yard.

The Warriors gained 198 yards on the ground and 101 though the air for 299 total yards.

Among highlights for Thompson was 37-yard field goal by Adam McKinney.

Alan Reeves also connected with Sideeg Cooper for an 8-yard TD strike.

Thompson quarterbacks Alan Reeves completed 10 of 24 passes for one touchdown and interception. He also led in rushing with 108 yards on 11 carries.

On defense, Paul Bennette led the team with 10 tackles, Matt Treherne had nine tackles and Jordan Chism had seven tackles.

Next up for the Warriors is a road trip to another regional opponent, Hillcrest in Tuscaloosa
