Two inmates facing chargers in Shelby County were accidentally released from the Shelby County Sheriff&8217;s jail on Aug. 30.

Chevor Brigades Hines and Tammy Jean Matlock were both being held on in the Sheriff&8217;s jail on unrelated charges. Following a hearing in Columbiana on Sept. 1, the two inmates were returned to the jail and subsequently released from the county charges. The two were still facing other charges, however, and were supposed to be transported back to the Alabama Department of Corrections following their hearings in Columbiana.

&8220;Unfortunately, a data entry error occurred when both subjects were booked into the Shelby County Jail causing them to be accidentally released,&8221; a statement from the Sheriff&8217;s office read. &8220;The accidental release was discovered on Sept. 5. An investigation was immediately initiated and the Department of Corrections was notified. A search for both individuals was successful and they were returned to custody on Sept. 8.

Hines, 23, was taken into custody at his residence by Shelby County Sheriff&8217;s office investigators.

The sheriff&8217;s report said Hines would be returned to the department of corrections on the next available transport. He was in Shelby county court to face charges of obstructing justice.

Matlock, 40, voluntarily returned to the Alabama Department of Corrections upon learning that she was released in error. Matlock was in Shelby County court to face second-degree theft of property charges.

Sheriff officials confirmed Monday that no further charges would be pressed against to the two individuals.

&8220;The Shelby County Jail books approximately 15,000 inmates in and out yearly,&8221; the Sheriff&8217;s office statement said. &8220;This is the first accidental release that this administration can recall.&8221;
