The Shelby County school board could appoint an interim principal at Oak Mountain High School, schools superintendent Evan Major said.
The search continues for a person to fill the position that is scheduled to be vacated when current principal and superintendent-elect Randy Fuller moves to the central office in November.
Major said holding off on hiring a full-time principal until after Christmas will allow time for more applications to be submitted.
&8220;I&8217;m going to recommend a person for the board to appoint on an interim basis until we can get more applications,&8221; Major said. &8220;There will likely be more people applying for the job once the spring comes around.&8221;
Major said that Fuller and he have a specific person in the county school system that they will recommend for the interim position, but declined to give their name until the Sept. 21 school board meeting.
&8220;A number of people&8217;s contract will be up at Christmas time,&8221; Major said. &8220; Which will allow them to apply for the Oak Mountain High School position.&8221;
Major said that he has received a couple of applications, but wants to make sure there is a good pool of candidates to choose from.
&8220;This will be a wise decision for us,&8221; he said. &8220;This is definitely not something we want to run in to before we&8217;re ready.&8221;
