Trotter torches Anniston

The 5A (3-1, 3-0) Briarwood Christian Lions dominated region opponent Anniston 42-6 at home last Friday night.

&8220;Our defensive effort set the tone for the whole game,&8221; said Briarwood Christian head football coach Fred Yancey.

The Lions, who will travel to play 6A Homewood this Friday, did not allow Anniston to score until the fourth quarter, holding Anniston to 159 yards total offense.

Linebacker Bo Walters led the Lions&8217; defense with nine tackles.

Jake Moorer had four tackles, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt.

Quarterback Barrett Trotter also had a big night for Briarwood tossing four touchdown passes.

While Matthew Gordon made his presence felt with a 95-yard kick return.

Briarwood gained 110 yards on the ground and 215 yards through the air for 325 yards total offense.

The Lions&8217; first three scores came on passes of 57 yards, 5 yards and 30 yards from Trotter to Gordon and Will Noel (twice).

Gordon&8217;s 95-yard kick return preceded a 20-yard pass to William Hoke and a 2-yard fumble return by Walker May.

Trotter completed 12 of 18 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns.

Noel had three catches for 40 yards and two touchdowns while Gordon had one catch for 57 yards and touchdown
