Vincent comes up big in double OT

The 2A Vincent Yellow Jackets improved to 3-1, 3-0 following a big double overtime win 27-20 over region opponent J. B. Pennington at home last Friday night.

&8220;Our kids showed a lot of heart,&8221; said Vincent head football coach Dwight Spradley. &8220;They (J.B. Pennington) were a lot bigger than us physically. Our guys just hung in there and fought. We turned the ball over three times and our defense kept them out of the end zone.&8221;

This contest was a roller coaster ride for fans of the Yellow Jackets with Vincent leading 7-6 at the half and tied at 14-14 in the third quarter. The teams swapped scores until the second overtime when Corey Deloach connected with Octavius Looney on a 10-yard aerial and Desmond Ford added the PAT.

Ford then recovered a J.B. Pennington fumble to ice the win.

Deloach completed 17 of 25 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns while suffering two interceptions.

Looney caught seven passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns while Justin Peterson caught three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. Orlando Pelmer also caught a touchdown pass.

Ford led the defense with 11 tackles and two fumble recoveries.

The Yellow Jackets rushed for 238 yards and passed for 63 yards for 301 yards total offense.

J.B. Pennington struck first on a 45-yard run.

Vincent answered with a 21-yard aerial from Deloach to Orlando Pelmer and a 55-yard aerial from Deloach to Looney.

J.B. Pennington responded in kind with a 20-yard touchdown run and a 3-yard touchdown run.

Peterson caught a 10-yard pass from Deloach, and in the second overtime Looney caught a 10-yard pass from Deloach.

The Yellow Jackets will take a little trip to visit 1A Verbena this Friday night
