The local Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution placed a marker Sunday at Montevallo&8217;s American Village in memory of its namesake, David Lindsay.

When the chapter was first organized by E.W. Wills in 1927, it choose to name itself after Lindsay, a patriot and Shelby County pioneer. The past 75 years, have been what member Bonnie Atchison describes as a multi-generational &8220;quest&8221; to find out more about the man their chapter was named after.

The chapter first tracked Lindsay to Tennessee and to one of three &8220;David Lindsays&8221; who fought in the Revolutionary War. Only recently has member Adelle Simpson found research that may track Lindsay &8220;back to where he was&8221; in the 1770s.

The Daughters say they wanted to honor Lindsay for several years and the American Village was a perfect located to place a landmark.

&8220;It was a wonderful thing that was done Sunday,&8221; said Atchison. &8220;It was time that we honored David Lindsay.

During the dedication ceremony on Oct. 1, the Sons of the America Revolution presented the colors and a dedication ceremony was performed. One guest included Roberta Meadows, the great-great-great granddaughter of David Lindsay.
