Yancey approaches career win No. 200

We have just passed the midway point of the regular high school football season and my predictions have inched up to 72 percent.
I was 9-3 this past week and 49-19 overall (including two games involving four cross-country rivalry teams.
Before I go on to my predictions for this week, please note the Alabama Independent School Association has asked that the Coosa Valley at Cornerstone game to be moved up from Friday, Oct. 6 to Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Also due to the upcoming race at Talladega this weekend, Briarwood at Talladega has also been moved up to Thursday night.
The Game of the Week this week is important for more reasons than a chance for Briarwood Christian School to get another region victory. When the Lions travel to Talladega, Lions&8217; head football coach Fred Yancey will be going for career win 200. His career coaching record now stands at 199-71-1 and his record at Briarwood is 151-51.
Briarwood Christian School 5A (4-1, 3-0) is coming off a 17-7 road win over 6A Homewood and will travel to play region foe Talladega, which is coming off a 31-14 loss to Pell City.
-Game of the Week prediction: Briarwood 21, Talladega 7.
Calera 3A (5-0,3-0) is coming off a sweet home win 19-14 over rival 5A Shelby County and will travel to play region opponent Beulah, which trounced Lyman Ward 51-0.
-Prediction: Calera 21, Beulah 7.
Chelsea 5A (4-1,3-0) is coming off a non-region 49-33 loss at home to 5A Chilton County and will travel to play region foe Anniston, which lost to Wetumpka 42-13.
-Prediction: Chelsea 35, Anniston 7.
Coosa Valley Academy 1A, AISA (3-3, 3-2) is coming off a 56-20 home win over region opponent Warrior Academy and will travel to face region opponent Cornerstone Christian (3-3,3-3), coming off a 27-0 region loss at Shelby Academy.
-Prediction: Cornerstone Christian 28, Coosa Valley Academy 21.
Kingwood Christian 2A AISA 6-0,4-0 is coming off a 42-7 home win over region fore Chambers Academy and will travel to non-region opponent Patrician Academy.
-Prediction: Kingwood Christian 35, Patrician Academy 7.
Montevallo 3A (4-1,2-1) is coming off a 24-21 win over non-region opponent West Blocton and will travel to play region opponent Montgomery Academy, which defeated St. James 47-22.
-Prediction: Montgomery Academy 35, Montevallo 14.
Oak Mountain 6A 2-3,1-2 is coming off a 28-7 home win over 6A non-region Paul Bryant and will travel to play region opponent Carver, which lost to Hueytown 52-18.
-Prediction: Oak Mount-ain 21, Carver 7.
Pelham 6A 4-1,3-0 is coming off a 40-17 home win over 6A non-region Oxford for homecoming and will travel to play region opponent Jackson-Olin, which lost to Parker 12-8.
-Prediction: Pelham 28, Jackson-Olin 8.
Shelby Academy 1A, AISA 5-1,5-0 is coming a 27-0 home win over Cornerstone and will host region opponent Sumter Academy, which beat Open Door 42-0
-Prediction: Shelby Academy 35, Sumter 14.
Shelby County 5A (3-2, 2-1) is coming off a 19-14 loss at Calera and will travel to play region foe Dallas County, which defeated Keith 21-14.
-Prediction: Shelby County 28, Dallas County 14.
Spain Park 6A (3-1,1-2) is coming off a 24-7 road win over 6A non-region foe Bob Jones and will host region opponent Homewood for homecoming, which lost to Briarwood 17-7.
-Prediction: Spain Park 21, Homewood 7.
Thompson 6A 4-1,2-1 is coming off a 40-14 home win over 5A Hayes and will travel to play region foe Tuscaloosa County, which lost to Clay-Chalkville 19-7.
-Prediction: Thompson 21, Tuscaloosa County 7.
Vincent 2A
(3-2,3-0) is coming off a 56-2 drumming at the hands of 1A Verbena and will host region opponent Fultondale, which beat Brindlee Mountain 18-6.
-Prediction: Vincent 14, Fultondale 7.
