Calera handles Beulah

The Calera Eagles paid a visit to the Beulah Bobcats last Friday night, coming away with a 48-24 region victory.

The win soared the Eagles to 6-0, 4-0 and in a position to control their own destiny in the region 3A championship.

&8220;I though the kids played well,&8221; said Calera head football coach Mac Thompson.

He said the offense performed well, and some others guys stepped up for fallen players on the defense.

The Eagles rushed for 105 yards and struck through the air for 252 yards.

Quarterback Earl Haynes drew praise from his coach for completing 12 of 16 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns. He also had a 4-yard touchdown run.

Chris Cunningham had an 80-yard kick return for a touchdown, and Kaderius Lacey caught four passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns.

Dominique Wilson also caught a 46-yard pass for a touchdown and had a 20-yard touchdown run.

Defensively, the Eagles held the Bobcats to 128 yards on the ground and 114 yards passing.

The contest was never in doubt as Calera led 34-9 at the half and coasted to double their opponents&8217; production at 48-24.

Calera will host another bunch of Eagles for homecoming when region foe Montgomery Academy pays a visit for homecoming.
