The City of Hoover and Jefferson State Community College moved one step closer Monday to annexing the college&8217;s campus into the city&8217;s limits.

Jeff State officials have their sites set on moving to Hoover as the college moves forward with a $30 million expansion project to keep up with increased enrollment.

The Hoover city council got a first glance at an ordinance during its regular meeting Monday night that would annex the college&8217;s 20-acre property near Spain Park High School.

The college is already partially located inside of Hoover, following the purchase of 11 acres of city-owned land last year.

Jeff State officials say they are simply looking to have the entire campus located within Hoover.

In total, the college has purchased 27 acres of land from the city as it begins construction on a new building that will include additional classroom and meeting space.

The 130,000 square-foot facility, which is scheduled for completion in early 2008, will help expand the college&8217;s nursing, hospitality management, culinary arts and radiological technology programs.

The college is also adding a 150-space parking lot by this coming Januay in preparation for the new building&8217;s completion.

Jeff State currently has about 3,500 students enrolled in classes
