Lions light up Sylacauga

The Briarwood Christian Lions continued to roar undefeated in Class 5A Region 5 football, taking down the Sylacauga Aggies 42-20 at home last Friday night.

&8220;I was proud to get a big region win over a 5-1 team,&8221; said Briarwood Christian head football coach Fred Yancey. &8220;I give Sylacauga credit for coming in totally prepared and excited to play us. I give our coaches and players credit for matching that intensity and playing well to overcome the challenge.&8221;

Yancey praised offensive line, including Wes Nichols and Nathan Burk, two senior tackles, James Stannard at guard for the first time, and Travis Cope and Forest Jordan, who both overcame injuries.

The Lions had to rally after Sylacauga took a first quarter lead at 7-0, but the Lions responded with double scores in each of the next three quarters.

Barrett Trotter completed 15 of 26 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns. Nathanial Carlson caught four passes for 127 yards and one touchdown. Will Noel carried the load 17 for 128 yards.

The Lions rushed for 157 yards and passed for 253 for 410 yards of total offense.

Doing so, the Lions held Sylacauga to 69 yards on the ground and 246 yards passing for 315 total yards.

The win over the Aggies lifts Briarwood to 6-1, 5-0 and sets the stage for a road trip to face region opponent Moody this Friday night
