The Briarwood Christian Lions traveled to Moody last Friday and defeated a tough bunch of Blue Devils 33-14 to set up a region championship meeting with the Chelsea Hornets at Briarwood this Friday night.

The win keeps the Lions perfect at 6-0 in 5A Region 5 along with Chelsea Hornets.

&8220;I was especially proud of our defense for not breaking as a strong Moody offensive line gave their quarterback, Davis Harrison, some working room early in the game,&8221; said Briarwood head football coach Fred Yancey. &8220;However, the longer the game went, the better our pressure worked.&8221;

The Lions held Moody to 71 yards and 187 yards through the air. Harrison completed 30 of 44 passes for one touchdown and one interception.

Briarwood, however, rushed for 144 yards and struck through the air for 222 yards.

Briarwood quarterback Barrett Trotter completed 16 of 25 passes for those 222 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

He hit Nathaniel Carlson with a 25-yard TD strike for the first score of the night.

Trotter also connected with Riley White for a 22-yard TD pass and John Byers for a 13-yard TD play.

&8220;Team captain Gil Townes was the motor for us on defense tonight, as he had three unassisted tackles, including a sack, six assists, two pressures and a forced fumble,&8221; said Yancey.

Bo Walters had five unassisted stops for the Lions along with seven assists. Corner back Will Tumlin had seven unassisted tackles and three pass knockdowns.

Matt Gordon had a pass knock down and an interception for a 27-yard touchdown run to go with his four unassisted tackles and two assists.

On offense for Briarwood, Gordon kicked a 37-yard field goal and Will Noel ran an 8-yard touchdown.

Regarding this Friday&8217;s action, Yancey said, &8220;I expect it will be a very tough game to win because Chelsea is a very talented team with great coaches. I am thankful that we have a chance to play in a game that is this important.&8221;
